Zhang Yi
Summary: Zhang Yi, male, chief surgeon, director of the Third Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery (Organ Transplantation Department) of Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital, and member of the Expert Committee of the National Center for Medical Quality Control of Human Organ Donation. He was formerly the director of the First Department of General Surgery and the deputy director of the Transplantation Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. He presided over the liver transplantation work of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University and made it "normalized". According to incomplete data, from 2018 to November 2023, Zhang Yi led the hospital's organ transplantation team to perform more than 250 liver transplants. Since the hospital started kidney transplants in July 2021, more than 260 kidney transplants have been completed. The organ transplantation department was established in March 2019 with 45 beds. WOIPFG’s telephone investigation revealed that the number of organ transplants is large, the beds are tight, and the extra beds are full.
In view of the broader background of the Chinese Communist Party's state crime of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, since Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital is allegedly involved in the crime, Zhang Yi, the director of the hospital's Third Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery (Organ Transplantation Department), is a major suspect.
Zhang Yi, male, chief surgeon, director of of the Third Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery (Organ Transplantation Department) of Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital, and member of the Expert Committee of the National Center for Medical Quality Control of Human Organ Donation. From 2002 to 2005, he studied for a Ph.D. at the Institute of Organ Transplantation, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, mainly engaged in basic and clinical research on liver and kidney transplantation.[1] He was once the Director of the First Department of General Surgery and the Deputy Director of the Transplantation Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. He presided over the liver transplantation work of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University and normalized this work[2]. From 2018 to November 2023, Zhang Yi led the hospital's organ transplantation team to perform more than 250 liver transplant operations,[3] "leading the province and advanced in the country"; he was the first to carry out pediatric liver transplantation in Guizhou Province. Since the hospital started kidney transplantation in July 2021, more than 260 kidney transplant operations have been completed.[4] As an organ transplant doctor, Zhang Yi's work is mostly in emergency situations. He and his team often have to go through more than 9 hours of "surgical battles". Before the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday in 2023, he completed 12 organ transplants in 2 days.
The organ transplantation department was established in March 2019. The ward is located on the 5th floor of the surgical building. It has 45 beds, including 6 beds in the transplant isolation ward (not yet implemented, currently in the general ward) and 39 general beds[5]. The department currently has 32 medical staff, including 4 with doctorate degree, 8 with master’s degree; 14 surgeons, including 3 chief surgeons, 4 deputy chief surgeons, 2 attending surgeons, and 5 resident surgeons; 16 nurses, including 3 head nurses, 9 chief nurses, and 6 nurses. Liver and kidney transplantation is the "technical feature" of the department. "Now liver and kidney transplantation has become a routine extra-large operation in our department, reaching the advanced domestic level and leading in the province." [6]
