Three Hundred and Sixty-One Names That Cannot Be Met with Silence
Wang Zhiyuan, Chairman of the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP and of the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong
Friends, fellow countrymen:
Today we stand here not for politics, but for conscience, to let the whole world hear the truth.
Twenty-seven years ago, in Shijingshan, Beijing, inside a steel mill, 361 unarmed Falun Gong practitioners were forced at the CCP’s into boiling molten steel—burned alive, leaving not even bones behind. Their only “crime” was believing in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Their only “error” was refusing to renounce their faith.
This is not a legend. It is a confession wrung out of an armed police soldier who was there—paid for with nightmares and the torment of his own conscience. He said a gun was pressed to the back of his head. That is the logic of totalitarian rule: conscience is to be crushed at gunpoint.
Friends, history has told us again and again: tyranny can burn the body, but it can never burn away the human heart.
In 1999, a regime, terrified of the faith of one hundred million good and decent people, marshaled every instrument of state power—prisons, labor camps, the 610 Office, and the steel furnace—to extinguish a group of ordinary people who sought nothing more than to practice in peace. Twenty-seven years have passed. Falun Gong has not been destroyed. Instead, it has taken root and blossomed in more than sixty countries. And that once-arrogant regime is disintegrating, day by day, in the lies and corruption of its own making.
This is the starkest contrast between good and evil—on one side, lies, torture, and fear; on the other, truth, endurance, and hope. Which side history stands on—the answer is already written on the wall.
And so today I say to every one of you: do not be silent.
If you know the armed police officers and soldiers who were there, please step forward. If you hold even a thread of a lead, a single photograph, a single rumor, please step forward. The truth must be pieced together by every person of conscience.
As the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong has always held: We will thoroughly investigate all crimes committed against Falun Gong, as well as the related institutions, organizations, and individuals involved. No matter where they are or how long it takes, we will pursue them to the end. We will uphold divine principles, restore justice, and safeguard righteousness on earth. This is our promise to God, and we will never give up.
We solemnly warn the Chinese Communist authorities: that good and evil meet their due is the law of Heaven, and Heaven’s net is vast—its mesh is wide, yet nothing slips through. Three hundred and sixty-one names will not lie sunk beneath molten steel forever. The judgment of history will come.
Freedom has never been free. It requires every generation to defend it with courage and to guard it with the truth.
Today, we stand here to speak for those 361 souls who have no gravestones. Tomorrow, we will make the whole world hear their names.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you. May justice and conscience be with us all.
